Thursday 5th June 2008
This is my fourth day working at Good Looking Optics and it was an exhausting day as the weather was really hot and working in a suit didnt help either. So to start the day we had a quick meeting just to see what had to be done today. Firstly as I always do each morning I wrote my blog. Then when I completed that I had a major task to do this included three main elements which were taking the franked mail to the post office, dropping and collecting things from Gordan Thomas and the biggest of all three was to walk to the RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland) in the industry roads behind B&Q and drop some vital things off for Garry. Then when I got there I was instructed to go to PC World/Morrisons car park and put leaflets on everyones car. Then when I had finally finished the leafleting I went back to Good Looking Optics. Then it was time for lunch. After lunch I set out6 to do the case cupboard, to make it all nice and tidy. After doing so I was then instructed to once again take the dreaded walk to RBS. Once I finally got there I was KNACKERED and Garry could see that as he said I could go early.

Work Experience Day 3
@ 2008-06-05 – 10:09:33
Wednesday 4th June 2008
This is my third day and today was a tale of two halves. This would be because i was working sooo hard in the morning up until lunch then after lunch the work was more laid back. When i arrived at Good Looking Optics I knew I had to come and do my blog but Garry ordered a meeting where this informed me of the tasks I had to achieve today. After the meeting I came upstairs and got cracking with my blog. After finishing my blog I got started on researching on how to do a good presentation and on how do to a good meeting. I found out that in a good presentation you must dress nicely, speak clearly, keep eye contact, know your subject, rehearse it and remain calm at all times. But the things you musnt do in a presentation is not to figit, dont put your hands in your pockets, dont slouch, dont use sophisticated words and dont act arrogant like you know it all. Also in a good meeting you must always have and agenda to give the meeting some shape, you should always prioritise your discussion topics, always set a time limit for your meeting, always start on time, keep it short and weet and always keep everyone involved. Then it was lunchtime. After lunch I had to present my findings which then lead Garry to ask me to print up my rules for a good meeting. By this time it was 4.30 pm and this meant i could go out and do some relaxing leafleting. by the time I had finished it was 5.30 and this meant I only had 30 mins left of work. To fill that time I was asked to remove the sunglasses and replace them with older ones. -
Work Experience Day 2
@ 2008-06-04 – 10:09:03
Tuesday 3rd June 2008
This is my second day on work experince and its getting more challenging. I had a range of things to do. Firstly I wrote my blog and then had to research Hypermetropia and present my findings. Hypermetropia is a defect in your vision. This means that you can only focus on objects in the distance, but not objects that are close up. This is caused by the eyeball being to short, which means the image is behind the retina. You can correct this defect by having glasses fitted with converging lenses which magnify you sight. Then I cleaned the fish bowl and now it looks sparkling clean. By this time it was lunch time. Then when i came back from lunch I was doing some franking which is stamping letters basically. After the franking I arranged the cupboard downstairs so things can be found more easily. For my last task of the day before i went home i had to read a book by Brian Tracy. It was called "eat my frog" and its about time management. This taught me that if you procrastinate about somethimg then it obviously is a big task that you dont want to do. This is like eating a frog. If you have two frogs then you eat the ugliest one first. This is the same for having tasks to do. You should always do the hardest task first and leave the easiest one till after that is done. -
Work Experience Day 1
@ 2008-06-03 – 10:24:40
Monday 2nd June 2008
This is my first day on work experience and I had a quite fun filled day ranging from leafletting on the streets to learning how to mark lenses. Firstly I came in and we had a meeting. Then I had to blog about my interview and what I wanted to get out of the job. Then me and my fellow work experience colleague was stapling leaflets together and all this took until lunch which was at 1 o clock. Then after lunch I was being taught how to mark the lenses and how to glaze then after then being marked which was quite interesting. Then finally I was reasearching KPI. which stands for Key Performance Indicators which basically are pivital to any business if they want to succeed. They indicate on how a business is doing. -
Work Experience The Interview
@ 2008-06-02 – 10:30:56
On Wednesday 28th May 2008 I had an interview for work experience in Good Looking Optics in Enfield Town. I had worked here before for work experience and my last interview was terrible. This was because I was nervous and I didnt have the correct clothes on. When I got in the interview last time I was told that my body language wasnt great. So this time I wanted to make a better impression of myself in this interview. So I came in better dressed and ready for my interview. I made sure i gave off the impression that i wanted to work here and that my body language was second to none. I made sure of this by keeping eye contact with the interviewer, sitting up straight and not slouching and just generally being really attentive and responsive to what I was asked. I chose this work experience because last time I had a great time and enjoyed working here. Also I learnt alot on customer service and how to greet people in the correct manner. I also learnt a bit about the optics side of the business world. What I hope to achieve out of these two weeks of work experience is to expand my knowledge in the opticians business and hopefully get background information on things like accounting and how a business is run.
